What is a hearing voices group about?

It is for people who hear voices, to get together and talking about what it is like for them.

Sharing experiences can help us a) to better understand what is happening b) share what worked for us and what didn’t c) help to feel not alone d) speak about it with someone who understands you. e) have someone actually listen to what you have to say in a real way.

Without judgement.

With People who know what it is like.

We need your help.

A lot of our groups shut down over Covid, and now we need to start again. If you can help us to start a group in your area of NZ by

  1. Providing a venue for free or cheap
  2. Being an organiser and helping to hold a group. We need 2 for every group, ideally would be good if people can take turns.
  3. You want to attend a group and willing to help get people interested in one…

In New Zealand the Hearing Voices Network is an Independent society, and a registered charity.

We are run by our members. The guidelines for our groups are in line with the International HVN.

  3. To all Solders, I am proud of every one of you!!! Most of us carry heavy scars and lost legs, face disfigurement, my Solders carry many bad burns.
    Well my Solders, it is ending. We will be god Solders in heaven on First Class Atlantis War Birds. God is going to open the Heavens and burn those thoughtless peaces of crap all the way to hell. Also we all will be very honored in the heavens for are bravery. All of us took on the devil and kicked his ass!!!

    Very good job indeed……Stop by as soon as possible, all the beer, drinks and feast is on me. We will have a smile on are face for eternity….

  4. Actually we really are solder during the day and when we are up. That is when we generally get hurt or killed by them clouding are minds and putting up with there verbal harassment.

I juanjohn Ramos aka johnny i have started to hear voices about 16 to 25 years know.. it have cause so much problums and this pain that i go threw is notthing nice.. i am seeking mental health to rehilabtate to function so that i can work and not hurt anyone or self.. because of this im liveing on the streets.. for the past 6 months know.. please give in info wheree i can goto meeting and seek info to deal with this problum of mine

      • Hi Johnny, I have emailed one of the Hearing Voices Network groups in America to see if there is one in your area. I know there is an excellent one at the Freedom Center in Portland Oregon.
        Doesnt look like there is one in California yet.

  8. Very interesting reading. I am a nurse working in Dunedin NZ at the SDHB in psychoeducation. I have been following the ideas related to hearing voices for quite a few years. I run a recovery of spirit group [amongst many others] that leaves the door open to what exactly is occuring. I needed to read and learn a lot more before venturing into setting up a living with voices psychoed process. Does any one know if there is a current hearing voices support group in Dunedin? I have spoken with Debrah Lampshire and have access to pointers from her experience in Auckland. All good. But I want to ground anything I do in the lived experience. I’d love to talk to anyone local about what would be most useful before I plug to far in on my own or just with other staff. I’ve got good information from the Romme / Escher books, Richmond Fellowship and intervoice but…it needs to link with a living breathing beings experience of distress from voice hearing. Thanks.     • Hi, I’m not sure if there is, but I would be interested in starting one. I am not a voice hearer but am a support worker for Mental Health Support Services. I have been interested in trying to get a voice hearers group going in nelson. I also think it would be great to try and get Debra Lampshire from Auckland to come and make some kind of presentation, open to the public. She was interested a couple of years ago, but funding was an issue

        Thanks for your reply. Somehow I have only jyst managed to view this. My work email is pauline@healthaction.org.nz I coordinate COMPASS Peer Support and Advcacy service. Would love to chat to you about getting a group off the ground and I may have some funding options. I don’t know Debra Lampshire but am aware of Arana Pearson’s work through Keepwell Ltd. It would be good to compare them as I think lunching a group would be best done through workshops and public meeting from people like these. I look forward to hearing from you

    Were in the very early planning stages of trying to organise and get a christchurch support group up and running. Bear with us it wont be until the new year before we have our first meeting.

  14. Hello, I am a clinical psychologist living in Christchurch who completed training with Jacqui Dillon of the UK Hearing Voices Network. I am keen to bring this model to Christchurch in the form of a support group and can volunteer to be involved with setting this up and running if the NZ network can help me to do so? Thanks, Aisling
